  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

  7. Allow to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For frosting, beat together butter and cocoa powder, then gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream until fluffy.
  9. Spread frosting between the layers and on top and sides of the cake.
  10. Slice, serve, and enjoy!
