Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup caramel bits or chips
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) or lightly grease a 6-quart slow cooker insert.
  2. Pour the apple pie filling into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish or slow cooker.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the apple layer without mixing.
  4. Scatter the caramel bits evenly over the cake mix layer.
  5. Drizzle the melted butter over the entire surface.
  6. For the oven, bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly. For the slow cooker, cook on LOW for 3 to 4 hours or HIGH for 1.5 to 2 hours.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving, ideally warm with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the apple pie filling. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
