  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water until batter is smooth.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  7. Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting while the cakes cool completely.
