Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon aluminum-free baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed and very cold
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons cold buttermilk, divided
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for topping)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon dried or fresh chopped parsley (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C).
  2. Mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  5. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in 1 cup of buttermilk and the honey. Gently stir until just combined; do not overmix.
  6. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 30 seconds, then shape it into a rectangle. Fold the dough into thirds and repeat this folding process three times.
  7. Cut the dough into circles using a biscuit cutter and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Brush the tops of the biscuits with the remaining buttermilk to encourage browning.
  9. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Mix the melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley. Brush this mixture over the biscuits while they are still warm. Serve them right away for the best flavor.

Notes

Ensure your butter remains cold to achieve a flaky texture and avoid overworking the dough.
