Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
2 teaspoons dried oregano
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup pasta shells
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once heated, add the ground meat and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until no pink remains.
Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the meat and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes until the onion is translucent.
Pour in the crushed tomatoes followed by the dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and let the sauce simmer on low heat for about 15-20 minutes.
In a separate pot, bring salted water to a boil, add the pasta shells and cook according to package instructions until al dente, around 8-10 minutes.
Drain the pasta shells and gently mix with the Bolognese sauce in the skillet. Optionally, sprinkle in half of the mozzarella cheese and mix until melted.
Serve hot, topped with remaining mozzarella cheese and a sprinkle of fresh herbs.
Notes
For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey or chicken. You can also add finely chopped carrots and celery for added flavor.
