Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened natural cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons semi-sweet chocolate chips for topping
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt or sour cream, at room temperature
  • 1 and 1/2 cups mashed bananas (about 4 medium or 3 large)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  2. Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl. Add 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips and mix.
  3. Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar in a separate large bowl until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Incorporate the yogurt, mashed bananas, and vanilla extract into the butter mixture until fully combined.
  6. Gradually mix the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients until just combined. Add the hot water and blend until smooth.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle the remaining 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips on top.
  8. Bake in the oven for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use very ripe bananas for a sweeter, more flavorful bread. Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for a week.
