A delightful twist on classic breakfast, combining the creamy richness of crème brûlée with the comforting texture of French toast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of brioche or challah, sliced
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the bread into thick pieces (1-1.5 inches) and arrange in a greased baking dish.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread slices, ensuring full coverage; soak for about 15 minutes.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is just set.
  6. Remove from the oven and sprinkle sugar on top; caramelize with a kitchen torch or under the broiler.
  7. Let cool for a minute before slicing and serving. Garnish with fresh fruits, syrup, or powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Avoid over-soaking the bread; use day-old bread for best results. Can be prepared the night before and baked in the morning.
