Chocolate Cookie Cinnamon Rolls

Warm, gooey cinnamon rolls with a soft, chocolate-dough base swirled with rich cinnamon and topped with delightful icing.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, sugar, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter, egg, and 1 cup of milk until fully combined. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, forming a thick dough.
  4. On a floured surface, roll the dough into a large rectangle, about ½ inch thick.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Sprinkle the cinnamon mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough, then scatter the chocolate chips if using.
  7. Starting from one edge, roll the dough into a log shape and pinch the edges to seal in the filling.
  8. Slice the log into 1-inch pieces and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through and the tops are slightly firm to the touch.

Notes

These rolls can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight before baking.
