These chewy sugar cookies feature crisp edges and soft centers, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and 1 1/4 cups of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using), and mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually mix in the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until just combined.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and coat each ball in the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar.
  6. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10 to 11 minutes, or until set and lightly golden at the edges.
  8. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For chewy cookies, avoid overbaking. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
