Delightful Cardamom Shortbread Cookies with a refreshing Orange Glaze, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice
  • Zest of 1 orange

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream the softened butter and powdered sugar together in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy—about 3-4 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, ground cardamom, and salt.
  4. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture, stirring until just combined.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
  6. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll the chilled dough into small balls or flatten for cookie cutouts and place on the baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Once the cookies have cooled, whisk together the powdered sugar, orange juice, and zest for the glaze. Drizzle over the cookies and let set before serving.

Notes

Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For a fun variation, use vanilla extract instead of cardamom for a kid-friendly version.
