A cozy American dessert featuring tender baked apples topped with a sweet and crispy crumb mixture, perfect for any occasion.

  • 6 medium-sized apples (e.g., Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 3 cups of breadcrumbs (preferably whole grain or homemade)
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into roughly 1/4-inch slices. Drizzle with lemon juice.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix breadcrumbs, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour in melted butter and mix until crumbly.
  4. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the breadcrumb mixture, followed by sliced apples, and then top with remaining breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Bake for about 45 minutes until the topping is golden and apples are bubbling.
  6. Cool slightly before serving, optionally with vanilla ice cream.
