Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box vanilla cake mix
  • 1 box (3 oz) orange gelatin mix
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp orange extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the vanilla cake mix and orange gelatin mix. Stir until well blended.

  4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. For the frosting, beat the softened butter in a bowl until fluffy. Gradually mix in the powdered sugar.
  8. Add the heavy cream and orange extract (if using) and continue beating until smooth and creamy.
  9. Frost the top of the first cake layer, stack the second layer on top, and frost the entire cake.
  10. Slice and serve your Orange Creamsicle Cake.
