A comforting casserole with hearty sausage, pillowy pierogi, and creamy cheese—a perfect family-friendly dish.

Ingredients

  • Pierogi (fresh or frozen)
  • Sausage (Italian or Kielbasa)
  • Onions (caramelized)
  • Cheese (cheddar or a blend)
  • Sour cream or cream cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add chopped onions to the skillet and sauté until translucent and caramelized, about 4-5 minutes.
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the pierogi, followed by half of the sausage and onion mixture.
  5. Sprinkle a layer of cheese over the sausage and repeat the layering with the remaining ingredients.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, use turkey sausage or add more vegetables. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
