A comforting casserole that blends the creamy textures of mac and cheese with the heartiness of meatloaf, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey/chicken)
  • 1 cup elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: herbs like oregano or thyme

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, egg, and seasonings.
  4. In another bowl, combine cooked macaroni, 1 ½ cups cheese, and milk.
  5. Layer half the meat mixture in a greased casserole dish, add the macaroni and cheese, then top with the remaining meat mixture.
  6. Sprinkle remaining cheese and breadcrumbs on top. Bake for 30 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  7. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a crispy topping, consider broiling for a couple of minutes after baking. Can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
